Note: Those wishing to donate Sunday flowers must sign the Flowers Roster on the bulletin board in the Narthex. H. Bedford will contact you regarding your choice of flowers, budget, etc. Should you wish to make other arrangements for flowers, please advise H. Bedford no less than two weeks prior to your Sunday flower date. Also please let the office know (preferably in writing) of who the flowers are dedicated to.

HOLY SPIRIT CHURCH SCHOOL

Superintendent:

From the Sunday after Labour Day to the end of June, Sunday morning Church School classes are held downstairs in the church, beginning at 10:15 a.m. — using the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum. Following their class time, the Church School children come upstairs to join in the Eucharist, just prior to the Sharing of the Peace. The Sunday Church School program is supplemented with various special events during the year. During July and August, informal Church School classes are held downstairs on Sundays, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

 

 

CHURCH SCHOOL CLASSES
AND TEACHERS

Nursery: A nursery volunteer is on nursery duty each Sunday beginning at 10:15 a.m., downstairs in the church's special nursery room, to care for infants and toddlers under age three (for parents who wish this service).

Note: At the Church of the Holy Spirit, children
(having become full members of God's family at baptism), are invited to receive Communion at the Eucharist. When they reach age five or six, parents
are encouraged to bring children to the Rector for a communion instruction session.

ADVISORY BOARD

An advisory group of parishioners meet monthly (September-June) with the Incumbent and Wardens to consider the ongoing ministry and affairs of the Parish. Advisory Board membership is open to any interested parishioner. Members are elected at the Annual Vestry Meeting in February.

ALTAR GUILD

Altar Guild President:

Holy Spirit's Altar Guild cares for the church sanctuary and its furnishings, and prepares the sanctuary for all services of worship. Guild members are on duty about once every six weeks, in teams of two. New members welcome.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

In recent years, the people of Holy Spirit Parish have aided and supported the following community ministries: Christmas Outreach Program, the FOODPATH food bank, the Open Door Christian
Drop-In Centre
in Square One, the Our Place (Peel) Youth Shelter, the Dixie-Bloor Neighbourhood Centre, the Interim Place Shelter for Women and Families, the DAM Youth Drop-in Centre in Meadowvale, and (extending into the wider community) the ministries supported by our Diocese's FaithWorks program.

 

 

GROUNDS KEEPERS

Co-ordinator: B. Goodyear

Our grounds keepers are a busy group of volunteers who help to care for the spacious lawns and flowerbeds around our church. Gardeners help with the flowerbeds. Volunteer lawn-cutters take on the responsibility of doing about two hours of lawn cutting about once a month during the growing season.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY GROUP

On Wednesday evenings throughout the year, Holy Spirit “Bible Study Group” meets at 7:30 p.m. No age limit or experience necessary, just a lively imagination and a willingness to enter into great discussion! There will be no Bible Study in July or August, but it will begin again in September, and continue until Christmas.

 

 

CHILDREN’S MUSIC & DRAMA GROUP

The Junior Choir and Drama Group (for children ages six and up) meets each Thursday from 6:45-7:45 p.m. at the church, to learn and practice songs and chancel dramas for eventual performance at a Sunday service in the church. Periodically, Junior Choir members take part in services at the Trillium Health Centre and at Seniors' Homes. All welcome.

OFFICE VOLUNTEERS

Our office volunteers take responsibility for many aspects of running a church office, from organizing the pew bulletins, to booking space in the church. Volunteers work on a rotating basis, one morning a week. It’s an important ministry in a busy and growing parish, and offers a great deal of assistance to the Rector.

SERVERS

Our servers at Holy Spirit make a vital contribution to our Eucharistic liturgy and ceremonial, especially at the 10:30 service on Sunday. This group includes crucifers, torch bearers, and acolytes. On our current roster, servers are on duty every 4-6 weeks. Young people or adults are invited to speak to the Rector if they are interested in becoming servers. Servers Training Breakfasts are held about once every six weeks, and all are welcome!

SPECIAL EVENTS THROUGH THE YEAR AT THE CHURCH OF THE
HOLY SPIRIT

ALPHA, Adult Christian Education Courses, Euchre & Cribbage Parties, Speaker's Evenings, Spring Fashion Show, Parish Talent Show, Neighbourhood Food Drive for the Foodpath food bank, Maundy Thursday Seder Supper, Easter Vigil Party, Parish Picnic, Newcomers —Party, After-Church Restaurant Brunch, an annual Blessing of the Animals Service, Garage Sales, an annual Parish Bazaar, a Christmas Pageant.

 

 

SUPPER CLUB

Members of the Holy Spirit Supper Club meet together five times during the year for supper and fellowship. All members attend a Pot Luck Supper in late October or early November, when they are divided into smaller groups of 8-12 people. The smaller groups meet together on three occasions in one another's homes over the winter, with each individual or couple contributing part of the meal. All the members get together again in June for an end-of-the-year supper gathering. All welcome to participate; new members can be integrated at any time during the year.
